Dougherty surname information please :>)

Hello,
I was born in England to two Irish parents and I'd be glad of any information on my spelling of the surname and whether there is a very particular area to visit where that surname is rooted when I visit Ireland.
Also I'd like to know if Dougherty (My spelling) is an old /older form or an anglesization of a previous form?
Could any one tell me how my surname is pronounced in it's root/home area? Is it Do herty Do ckerty Dough erty. People pronounce it all different ways in England.
