I recently did a DNA test being carried out under the auspices of Clann Chaomhánach. The (surprising) results appear to show pretty convincing evidence that our Cavanagh family (from Greencastle) had a Co. Wexford origin,possibly dating from the presence of a Jacobite Cavanagh regiment at the siege of Derry.
I am told that around the Buncrana area the Cavanagh name was transformed into Kivenehan or similar. This might be of general interest to you. | |||
