St Brigid's Youth Club and Community Centre
At the beginning of 1989 the people of Clonmany responded to the urgent demands of the young people of the Parish to provide some sort of central meeting place and organised activities for them. Meetings were held throughout the four school areas and from this a committee was formed with the specific job of creating a Youth Club. ST. BRIGID'S YOUTH CLUB was founded on 1st February, 1989, and now three years later, we have over 300 members between the ages of 8 and 19.
Since then, the Club has developed into a strong socially accepted organisation. Our aims are to guide young people towards helping others in the community less fortunate than themselves and at the same time to enjoy the sporting, social and religious activities the Club can give them.
This year the Club has entered very successfully in the 1992 County and National Games. With the achievement of winning Gold and Silver at Inishowen, County and Regional level. One of our teams won their way through to play in the All Ireland Table Tennis at the National Games in Galway at the beginning of May.
To achieve this success we have to acknowledge that we would not have been able to do it without the help of parents and helpers throughout the Parish and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all the hours they have spent in the Club helping with the activities, games and discos. We would also like to thank Fr. Morris who always pays all our activities a visit and makes the hall available to us whenever it's needed.
Our membership numbers have dictated to us that we are in need of a much larger premises and we are now in the process of erecting our new building. The new building will not be the exclusive property of St. Brigid's Youth Club, but will be available to all organisations, clubs and groups in the parish, hence, the new name ST. BRIGID'S YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTRE.
The project is a very large one and needs a large amount of financing so if anyone reading this would like to make a donation we would be very grateful. All donations can be made to any member of the committee. We invite you to take a look at the building and hope you will use it in the future.
