Placenames Ballymacmoriarty is a squarish townland consisting mainly of sand dunes and murbhach. A quarter of the land is arable and the rest is rough nut grazing. It is located alongside Pollan Bay ( North Atlantic) on a short stretch of shoreline. The inland (old shore line) has cliffs and heights on the east side. A tradition of whole villages covered in farmland was covered by sand in the last century. Ballymacmoriarty has no villages or parts. Ballymacmurty / Baile mic Muircheartaigh - MacMurtagh's
