23rd, 24th,
25th June 2000
Patrick Kavanagh, principal of Gaddyduff National School, Clonmany, who had spent his childhood as a neighbour, realised the importance of what he had to say and chronicled his memoirs over many years. Brian Friel subsequently edited the manuscript and it was published in book form as "The Last of the Name" and has recently been published in French as "Le Dernier du Nom". From this backdrop the McGlinchey Summer School will explore the history and traditions of Inishowen and the north west. It is hoped that a greater awareness of our rich heritage will be created and will be passed on to a new generation. In this, our third Summer School, we celebrate the millennium by exploring the spiritual heritage and traditions of Inishowen and the north west. All events will be held in St. Bridget's Youth Club, Clonmany (unless otherwise stated). Admission is free to all lectures. For further information, please fax/phone 077 76160 or 01 2857411. For information on local accommodation, please phone 077 76151. Theme for June 2001 "Emigration from Inishowen and the north west since the Great Famine"
