Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time - November 12, 2000

It Might Be Your Last Act Do not pursue what is passing - property and position. Live with a steady superiority over life. Don't be afraid of misfortune and do not yearn excessively after happiness. The bitter doesn't last forever, and the sweet never fills the cup to overflowing. It is enough that you don't freeze in the cold, and that the thirst and hunger don't claw to your insides. If your back isn't broken, If your feet can walk, If both arms can bend, if both eyes can see and if both ears can hear, then whom should you envy? And why? Our envy of others devours us most of all. Rub your eyes and purify your heart - and prize above all else in the world those who love you and wish you well. Do not hurt them or scold them, and never part from any of them in anger; after all you simply do not know but it might be your last act, and that will be how you are imprinted in their memory.

God walks in the Garden The beauty of Autumn leaves speaks to the heart and lifts the spirit to the God of all creation. Prayer does not have to wait until we stand in Church or kneel down at home. Prayer rises in the heart, with the singing of birds and the loveliness of gold and russet leaves.

The Belarus/ Chernobyl Hospital Aid Fund was established in September 1999 in Carndonagh. It was formed by a group of people who became aware of the terrible conditions in the hospitals in that area. They wanted to improve the quality of life for the unfortunate children in these hospitals. Two local men, Joe Wilson and Jim Coyle visited Mozar in the Republic of Belarus in April 2000 bringing Medical Supplies and General Medical equipment. The condition of the Children's Hospitals was even worse than could ever be imagined. Through this visit it became apparent how much more was needed. This cannot be done without your valued support. Our next aim is to purchase an ambulance and pack it full of medical supplies. The next fund-raising event we are organising will be a Monster Quiz in Ballyliffin Golf Club on Dec. 1, with over £1,000 in prizes. We would appreciate it if you can give your support. It will only cost £100 per team and there will be fabulous prizes guaranteed.

Parents, please note that art classes will now end at 8pm. Irish classes started last Monday night at 8pm. The classes are free and will continue for six weeks. There is no need to book, just come along on the night. In last weeks bulletin we asked for people to help at the centre.

We would like to ask again as I'm sure there are people who wouldn't mind giving two or three hours each week to help with activities, supervision, cleaning and general help around the centre. We also need help with the mini-lotto, weekly draw and car boot sale. The centre opens between 8 and 9am. and closes between 11 and 11:30pm. With these long hours it is essential that we have more help. If you would like to put your name on the rota, please contact Kathleen at the centre, tel. 76772 or 086 816 2799. We would like to thank everyone already helping.
