This Sunday's Gospel tells us how Jesus wants us to
be very clear about God's Call for us. It is easy to get distracted
from the Way that Jesus shows us. Fortitude is a Christian virtue
and a gift of the Holy Spirit. It gives us firmness in our difficulties
through life. It keeps us persevering on the way of good, helping
us to deal with temptations. The Scripture readings today all encourage
us to practice fortitude. By it we will conquer our many fears, and
be able to face trials, persecutions and even death itself. No misfortune
can disturb the one who is trained in the vrtue of fortitude. I will
follow you wherever you go. Father, at my baptism I was anointed,
and by water and the Holy Spirit I was made a member of your family.
Help me to remain faithful to you and steadfast in my following your
Son, Jesus Christ.
