Local Notes

St. Mary's Church, Clonmany.

St. Michael's Church, Urris.

Oratory, Ballyliffin.

Fr. Jack Farrell, P.P., Tel. 76264.

Fr. Peter Devlin, C.C., Tel. 76114.

The cost of discipleship: For years discipleship cost us little or nothing. We were able to drift along in a faith that was always sure, in a church that was always right and made all the decisions for us. It caused us minimum discomfort. Not any more. Discipleship now can make us stick out like a sore thumb. And can leave us at the wrong end of harsh criticism and even ridicule. Has it dawned on us fully that our lives as Catholics have radically changed? Today the words of the hymn are particularly apt; 'Let us be bread / blessed by the Lord; / broken and shared, life for the world. Let us be wine, love truly poured; / let us be one with the Lord.' We need to work on our liturgies to keep them relevant to our times and yet a source of badly-needed nourishment for people who can be frightened off by this sort of discipleship. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live in the land and be secure. If you find your delight in the Lord, He will grant your heart's desire. Commit your life to the Lord. Trust in Him and he will act. Be still before the Lord and wait in patience.
