A prayer of hope and longing for true justice throughout the world Advent, the season of hope, is about the coming of Christ. He has already come in past history. But he is still coming today, knocking on our hearts to let him into our lives, our thinking, attitudes and behaviour. If we follow his ideals, then his kingdom or reign will be manifest on earth. Isaiah spoke of the coming king whose wisdom would dissolve all traditional prejudices and hatred. A little child will lead them, if only we would follow. We are still far removed from lasting peace because many of our political and financial structures are unjust. Who hears the cry of the poor, helps the needy or shows pity to the weak? The reign of Christ begins with justice, builds up peace and then knows joy in the Spirit. Until then we pray:

Thy kingdom come. Father, you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to give us confidence during our lives and to show us the way to live and prepare ourselves for the final call home to our eternal happiness. May I, with your help, live a life worthy of my calling.
